Look school defines you because the students who are toppers of the class are toppers because they dont Procrastinate and do their homework regularly on time, they prepare for their exams on time. So thats how school defines you.

School shows us who will be a serious worker in the future.

I don't know anyone who got bad grades and is a successful professional. But, I do know a lot of very successful professionals who are pretty smart – but I met them in college 🤷🏾‍♀️!

So if you get Ds and Fs, and you're going to be "just fine", then how are you going to show you learned anything? Will being kind or nice get you a job? Maybe in retail, sure, but what about when you actually have to demonstrate the ability to absorb and repurpose knowledge and information? How are you going to do that? How are you going to make enough money to support yourself, let alone a family? By being kind or nice? Probably not.

I'm in Europe and I choose my child's grade school based on the social aspect of the school. It's a Jena plan school and helping other kids learn and learning from other kids is important. I also looked at test scores, they were good enough. I looked at what kind of secondary education the kids went on to do after the school and it was nicely varied! I hate the idea of my child growing up thinking that grades and getting the top spot in school and going to an 'ivy league ' school are important goals. I want her thinking that any kind of profession she wants to do is a great one. She wants to be a car mechanic then great how can I help her achieve that goal. She wants to get a PhD in chemistry and to science research then also great how can I help her achieve that. I will only care about grades if they open doors to give my kids the opportunity to do what it is she wants to do. If she changes her mind then we will help her with that next thing. Sooooo many people that have a degree do a job that has nothing to do with that degree, things change, life happens, goals move.
