Facts were spoken and I’ve never heard someone else say this. My mom told me I was beautiful a handful of times from preschool to high school. I was never insecure about my physical appearance because she didn’t constantly praise beauty wether it was in me or other people. She praised other things in me that built my personality: she praised my hard work, my curiosity, my loyalty. Same for other people. She would show me inspirational men or women and point their qualities. She praised my strength and the attitude I would give to bullies. She taught me NEVER to talk shit about myself when other kids were always saying things like “im such a dick at maths”.
I was on tumblr when it was popular and remember being so confused when I read posts saying things like “its ok, youre enough even if youre fat” or stuff about “accepting yourself” “youre beautiful no matter how you look”. In my 13yo mind I was like “no you’re not particularly beautiful, but why are you making such a big deal out of it ? It doesnt matter”
I would see it then and i still see it today, parents would inflate their kids ego by telling them they were so beautiful, the most beautiful etc. Kids would grow up to find more beautiful people and it creates cognitive dissonance and shatters their identity because they based it on superficial things that fade anyway.
