The biggest poison in US is Regret because when you see regret in a man's eyes, it's painful because you can't do about it. When you're 90 and you're not mobile and you're tired and it's over. You can't do any. You can't do it.
You can't build that company you wanted. You can't spend that time with your kid. It's regret and it drives the out of me.
Working harder to achieve something we aspire to do is still less painful than living with the regret of never trying at all. Regret is like looking at a billboard that reads "I chose not to believe in myself. "
Believe in yourself. Give yourself a chance, you'll be surprised by what you can achieve!

You can also have regret for not acting the right way with your loved ones, etc. My main causes of regret are never money/work/business related. Even if I consider I am an accomplished individual in many aspects, I didn't take the best decisions in others (business, jobs, career, etc. It could have been better, but "regret" about those let me sleep greatly every night). That feeling of regret for me is minimal, even counting on the worse fk ups (I mentally balance those with other wins), unimportant compared to not being there for a loved one, saying the wrong thing, or etc.
IMO, regret is not something we can avoid. It's part of life. It will come in one form or another (I know, in my early 50s). The best we can do is do things right in every possible sense as much as we humanly can (specially in how we treat each other) not only to "regret doing (or not doing) fewer things", but to be a lot happier ourselves, now and later (not just later).
