The reason so many people micromanage and don't delegate is they're concern that it's going to get messed up and they don't want to deal with the client's issues. The power of good intent. You didn't intend for it to go poorly. You put the best people in place that you can to the best in your ability.

The power of accountability when something goes wrong. I'm sorry and I'm going to take care of it is actually what you want to be doing, not trying to fix it before it happened.

Often micro management leads to decisions taken by a boss (or several) with not the technical knowledge required. It often ends up with things going pretty bad for the company. I have seen it while working at ten companies, in higher or lower degree. Best bosses are those who are humble and with an ego 'under control'. With those it'd be very rare to see bad micro management happening. Sadly, the same can happen with a client who does not trust the professional/freelancer, who wants the best for the client, and knows better about that tech or domain of knowledge.

My boss is hellish at micro-managing and she has really good employees in place, when she leaves for a holiday the place runs so much smoother.
