"What works? Instagram." – Gary Vee
I don't click banner ads.
Love the live Q&A – keep them coming ***** 🙂
"Banner ads are more dog sh*t than radio." True statement- especially about radio.
You have to make Data Driven Decisions today. It's the difference between being Netflix or Blockbuster. That's as clear a picture as I feel the need to paint. 🙂
Also a large majority of those have 'adblocker' extension for there browsers.
So an even lower number see these ads now.
***** banners ads and email no longer work? I guess my clients have to refund all of these orders. 🙂
You mentioned spam hadn't started yet in 1996 when you built your wine business. I don't know exactly when it happened, but there was no such thing a 'spam' folder in 1996. The 'invention' of the spam folder probably didn't even happen until the 2000's – that's how you get 90% open rates. Because everything you received back then was something you cared about, including an email from Wine Library, because to get that email, you had to care about wine and probably wanted to know more.
I few advertisers on youtube are doing something pretty neat, not sure how the analytics are working yet as I don't think companies are 100% on board with it yet. I've had some agencies ask me if I'd produce an ad FOR the brand that wants to run pre-roll on my channel. They'd pay me (a little amount) to produce an ad pitch for the brand (let's say Kraken Rum) and that 30-second pitch would be targeted exclusively on my channel.
That means the pre-roll ad that would run looks and acts just like our typical content and, the advertising "talking head" is the host of the show (and our fans are loyal to our show) so it would keep them watching the advertisement because they want to see what I do with it. In theory, it would hold people's attention longer (at least the first time each person sees it).
The agencies say it works but I've not had any of their spirit companies pull the trigger on it and hire me to run an ad on my channel yet. Just all talk right now.
