YOU CAN'T TREAT SOCIAL MEDIA LIKE A ONE NIGHT STAND. It'll never work that way. So stop doing it.
Social Media Marketing is like going Beyonce on your customers. What does that mean? You've got to put a ring on it if you want them around for the long run. Stop trying to seal the deal on your first at-bat. Romance the customer a little. Take them out to dinner before you try and take them home with you. Stop trying to close on the first transaction. It's never going to work. And if it does, it'll never be sustainable. No way. No how.

how do i find the whole performance? great stuff.
Don't forget the é in Beyoncé
I get the analogy because we are actually talking about real people and the human relationships started and maintained by social. But now that I am really committing "getting religion" (another of your analogies) about social I've started thinking about it the way I do my martial arts. I literally practice my Taiji all day every day – when I'm walking in the supermarket, when I'm standing in the kitchen, when I'm hanging with the guys at the gym. I'm starting to see engaging using social medial the same way. (Uhhhh… did that make sense to anybody besides me?)
Great metaphor!! XD
I wish companies understood this from a leadership standpoint.
I work in digital marketing, and the assumption is, if we make a video views will come. If we launch a youtube network, eyeballs will follow. The pressure to deliver a "Viral Hit" trumps the strategy, goals, and long-term commitment to providing great content and giving great value.
This seems to a be a battle we all will continue to fight.
But I am fine with the 19 year old dude mindset of trying to close, because when they get rejected by the consumer, the brands with longevity will be there to close the deal.
Your COSTUMERS huh…interesting
