It may not be possible for me to answer EVERY tweet, but for a long time it was, and people haven't forgotten that 😉
The effort is what matters when you’re trying to build a personal brand! From 2006 to 2011 I answered every single tweet and every single email, it's literally what I did for a living. Then the math beat me and it became unscalable, my wife and I started to have children. I started to build another business which is taking up a lot of my time, but the effort was still there. My infrastructure came off of me building what Seth Godin would call a “tribe” meaning: by building relationships with people that care about you. For example: here's a good story for building a tribe vs plain customers; my sister had her first child, so I was out of the pocket for two days cuz that was an important family event. During that time one of my twitter followers had tweeted “Gary V you’ve really sold out, I used to be able to tweet you and you would answer me in a minute. I have tweeted you 3 times in the last two days and you haven’t replied #jerk.”
This is what I love from the unscalable, even though my sister just had a baby and this was an important family event, I knew what was going on and I just wasn't replying right that second. Before I could reply in 12 minutes 700 of my fans had already dismantled that human being. “Hey fuckface his sister just had a child” and all the tweets my followers had posted had a similar reply. Effort is what matter when you’re trying to build a tribe and successful brand.

Love your videos
He's so right. Being kind and generous to people your whole life never goes amiss either. I haven't a huge following on social media but when someone decided to abuse and criticise me on FB – the critic was family which was worse – a woman I haven't actually seen for 20 years dismantled her. Good impressions last.
Congrats on the awesome content you put out. No wonder you have so many fans!
Love it!! Gary is the man!
Relationship is such a keyword here. Put in the effort towards building the relationship and you give people a reason to be loyal to you. Great insight Gary!
fans disarming people has really paid off for us too. For the most part, on youtube, I "clean" my channel by getting rid of people that are just trolling and being general assholes. Those that don't go over the line but are still being douchnozzels I leave for my fans to dismantle, it's fun to watch.
i dont get twitter. It's such a mess, i can't find anything interesting on it. How the h*** do you use it? And i've been building sites, social, etc for 10 yrs… Is it just ppl in California that use twitter? Any good sites for reference, Gary?
I can support this; it surely does pay off. In any way!
So scientists today announced that the brain uses sleep to cleanse the brain of toxins that the muscles excretes from use during the day and that a lack of sleep could be the trigger for brain dysfunctions later on in life. Still on the fuck sleep train?
haha great story 🙂
