If you are 22 years old, you are entering first of all, some of the greatest years of your life, because you have to understand this next five year window is when you don't go practical and safe. This is not the time to get the job mom wanted. You to this is not the time to try to maximize as much money, so you can buy a fat whip. This is when you can grind at your highest levels, because there isn't all the baggage that comes across from like you may have college loans, respect it's hard.

You may have the expectations of your parents mentally hard, fake hard. You may have a lot of other things, but this is the time to be massively risk oriented. What you should do is go and travel and learn, go and start that business that you've always wanted hook up with those three teammates and start that band you've always wanted. I know that there are so many of you that have no idea of what you're going to do with your future nobody's ever been luckier than you.

Please recognize it.

Absolutely agree. I was headed to USMC and law school at that age.
Now I fight wildfires and own real estate.
Don’t show wealth. Grind. Try new things, always.

Actually, I strongly believe that it is never too late to start doing what you really like and what you want to do. Of course, at certain point you have kids, family etc. But even then, I've known a collection of people still finding their passion even at their 50s (and later!). And to bring some examples of how it is not about age, but attitude (well, finally I will mention one, this comment is gonna be long as it is). For a sample of one of the best takes in life I've been able to read, the great master Hokusai (the one who painted that famous wave, The Great Wave off Kanagawa , in his beautiful style) :

" From the age of 6 I had a mania for drawing the shapes of things. When I was 50 I had published a universe of designs. But all I have done before the the age of 70 is not worth bothering with. At 75 I'll have learned something of the pattern of nature, of animals, of plants, of trees, birds, fish and insects. When I am 80 you will see real progress. At 90 I shall have cut my way deeply into the mystery of life itself. At 100, I shall be a marvelous artist. At 110, everything I create; a dot, a line, will jump to life as never before. To all of you who are going to live as long as I do, I promise to keep my word. I am writing this in my old age. I used to call myself Hokusai, but today I sign my self 'The Old Man Mad About Drawing. "

Me, at my 49… I'm telling you, I followed fully my passion at 40, until then, well, I don't regret what I had been doing (50% work, 50% passion, it's a good deal, too). Indeed, it is what most of us need to do to survive. But heck, if you get a chance to work on what you love, that's a treasure. IMO, not the end of the world if you can't; happiness comes mostly from doing good to other humans (huge truth, easy to verify, at least in the long run; in short term is not so obvious…it needs some training 😉 ), your closest ones, and even those who aren't. But doing stuff that you love, IMO, is at a very close second place to that.
