Nobody in America cares about privacy. We think we do, but our behavior shows that we don't. There's a vast majority of us that have had credit card fraud. If we didn't get our money back then maybe we would care about privacy, but since we did get our money back, we look the other way. What about kidnapping or crime? Kidnapping is dwindling because all of a sudden we're all media companies, snapping pictures as we please. There's no way kidnaps can happen in today's crowded, camera-filled malls.
Now, we (us in America) are allowed to share and put out more stuff. There's places across the globe where people are afraid to share their own content. Culturally, there are so many variables. At VaynerMedia, we work with tons of global brands and we NEED to be aware of the nuances and cultural "slang." The cultures both in America alone and globally are fundamentally different.
The context needs to apply at all times. You can't just translate the content and hope that it sticks, because it won't. A lot of people still say that 'content is king,' but they're wrong. It's the context through which the content lives, that is actually king and is what matters most.
