How many examples are there of this? I remember when it was cool to sign up for and receive newsletters, coupons that you could take to a physical store for great deals, etc.

Of course, during those great days I also remember hideous flashing color banner ads, unkillable pop ups, browser window replication, and so on.

So, from a marketing perspective, the good and the bad seem to be staying balanced ๐Ÿ™‚ Now, hopefully the tide has turned to relationships and value!

GV on target once again. The messaging and media innovations industries (everything from apps to the next way you send bits to your favorite vendors) will continually profit from this scenario. But the turnover should just quicken. Who's the next Viber? WhatsApp? Google Now? Who will stitch 5 APIs together and create a super Google Mash UP?
