It shouldn't be a surprise to any of you that we're entering a time where kids would much rather spend their Sunday nights inside and watching Fortnite on Twitch than they would going to a baseball game. A lot of people will call that sad or whatever, but the reality is that instead of reinvesting into the business, the MLB has nearly been milked dry.

i think esports will continue to blow the fuck up and there will always be traditional sports as well, not everyone will become a skinny weak gamer or whatever… there will always be that group of people that love to be active and things will balance.

Mlb should get in contact wit gary v
    He gets what baseball needs

In reality baseball still has the smell of old racist white guys in suits
    Thats the major problem
    That old ass mentality

I played Baseball all my life and still play on Sundays.. I'm embarrassed to say, I couldn't name one player from the Dodgers who is my hometown team… I love to play, but don't care to watch..

Esports may be the future but if some of these MLB teams take just a fraction of this information in they will be able to fill seats like seriously.

I have to disagree baseball is alive and well, thousands of fans, people of all ages pack the stands every night. The online content mlb posts is at an all time high, as well as what each sports writer, and individual teams posts. Also the old idea of baseball only being marketed to 30-60 year old is a lie. Let’s just look at the fact that thousands of 11-13 year olds are headed to Williamsport pa for the little league World Series along with their families. Also mlb baseball is playing a Sunday night espn game for all the teams and their families. So baseball is doing just fine if you ask me.

I stopped watching baseball once my father died years ago. I guess it was just a connection to him. I don't really have many friends who follow it at all unless their city has a good year and wins like Houston did recently.

Keen observation by Gary, "The days of baseball cards in your bike spokes are over." This taps key touchstones of our cultural changes taking place right now. As a child of the 70's, I can totally relate to the cards in the spokes comment, but realize that kids are different now – basically the result of our world (and we new parents) being different than the previous generation. Many kids don't play outside anymore especially if they're not supervised by adults hovering over them. When they play – they play inside, on guess what?- video games. When schools lose funding or piss their available money away on something useless, there's less funding for organized sports. Video and e-sports fill the void. Baseball doesn't have lots of fast moving action for young minds that are conditioned to crave fast stimuli, and as a group they collectively lose interest…more and more over time. Look at all of the old hobbies kids used to partake in… stamp collecting, model trains, model rockets, sewing, cooking — by today's standards way to BORING! Kids look at things like that and cringe in disgust. Baseball is sliding (pun intended) into the home plate of it's own demise the same way. It's slow, it's dull. kids don't give a shit. Golf is next on the list. Slow, boring, horrible TV. I give baseball, golf, bowling, and most Olympic sports one generation before most of them are either dead for lack of participation or simply forgotten by the media because they have to cater to the attentions, and intentions, of the upcoming generation. As network TV dies over the next 5 to 10 years, and entertainment becomes more specialized and segmented, the entire country will look completely different… and without network news, we'll probably all get along with each other a helluva lot better too.
