So many people ask Gary how he isn't afraid of failure and how they can get past their own fear of it. The reality is that you aren't actually afraid of failure. You are afraid of the potential judgment you will get from your friends and family and possibly even random strangers on the internet who see your content. This is why Gary is so adamant about ignoring outside voices. Once you are able to stop hearing the cheering and booing and focus on what you feel is right, you will be able to move much faster, fail quickly and get on the right path in less time than if you are constantly worried about judgment.

My dad told me many times how much it hurt that his father refused to support him in his dreams in any way. Yet he has no self-awareness of how much he did the same thing to me. How he did nothing but tell me I wasn't good enough to win at anything. But I never saw his experience growing up as being so closely related to mine this clearly before. I'm still struggling to believe in myself on the daily. I'm struggling to believe that what I want and dream would even matter to anyone. Because I never mattered to him, at all. To anyone in my family. Maybe he couldn't give me that support because he just didn't know how. Maybe broken people can't help but break people. Not in a malicious evil way, but in a "bull-in-a-china-shop" way. Maybe it will be easier for me to forgive him than it is to continue to feel feel rejected and disappointed.
