Personalization thx to Technology is the Key:)!
The problem with most online courses however, is the human factor. Most people that sign up for Udemy, Skillshare etc. never go past video number 2 because the course is optional…..optional homework, optional projects, optional deadlines. And because you don’t have to do any of the work, many times we opt out because you are not accountable to anyone such as classmates, and a teacher. The future is a different model where there needs to be a peer to peer element almost like a Mastermind group and a big addition would need to be making it more actionable through project based learning…not just a video and workbook.
School = a complete waste of time, i've learnt more from youtube, google and amazon than i ever learnt in school. University too was fun but all theory, i don't remember learning anything that applied to the real world. I've heard kids say they learn more from revision apps than classes, doesn't surprise me.
Lolz yes!! Khan Academy has helped me so much in college!
YES! And teachers/professors/educators will either adapt, or die.
It's only a matter of time. Everyone who is afraid that there will be no networking opportunities clearly has never been in a Facebook Group or Google Community for people in a profession or industry…. they've clearly never participated in a Tweet Chat. There are some many people creating value, engaging and interacting that it will make the old model obsolete. The reality is that for the longest time, trades and crafts and skills were passed from one person to another and that communities and guilds were formed. Formal university education is a very "modern" concept. Technology is going to allow education to be more accessible, more engaging and more scalable than it has ever been in human history. As for concerns about the local economy….look, if the local economy is not going to create tremendous value for people, it deserves to suffer. We're not beholden to support the local economy and local business to our detriment. I get 95% of my clients from elsewhere, non-local because someone else that could be their and shake their hand, couldn't deliver on what they needed or build the relationship the right way. Colleges are having that same problem. why spend thousands of dollars to not be successful at the execution of something, rather than ten's or hundreds of dollars to get it in a way that makes sense to you and have unlimited access on your own terms, on your own time table? You're literally paying to be dictated to, and have your time disrespected. You loose points for attendance as a paying customer?! It's ridiculous! The optics of a degree are crap, and valuing it over actual results and execution is nonsense. Optics are crap, execution is the game. period.
