Humans are very basic. We've always needed escapism if I had to choose back to life being Alternatives a 16 year old right now from 7 pm to 11 pm at night playing games versus watching television which is what her or his parents did 20 years earlier or reading a book for information that is now at their fingertip. I'll pick gaming because I think what it's doing is its forming behavior that is far more relevant to today's society as we go into a more machine oriented world. The mathematical structure around gaming, psychology, the things they learn.
the most self-aware will realize they're getting suckered into the gamification of it. They're chasing a carrot. We chase a carrot everywhere. That's that's what humans do.

Ive talked about this a few times, but most video games really are more beneficial than harmful. and even those that seem harmful is dependent up to the user.
One thing i have yet to describe to my great gma(she dislikes games but want to talk to her about it) is compared to watching tv or reading a book, video games are levels above. Instead of just watching, you are controlling, and taking hold of what you want to have happen. And with books the most important parts are the things you learn and the imagination when you act out scenes in your head, well games do the exact same thing, but then its a choose your own adventure book. Really almost any gamer has an idea of what they want to see next in their game and they do use imagination to think that up, and the learning aspect is actually insane. I’m not strickly talking about educational games, every game teaches you something, you have to learn to play it in the first place, and a lot of games have so many aspects that learning to use the features makes a good many people think more critically, efficiently, and with some fun.
The only reason it got a bad rep is because the previous generation decided to blame everything on video games rather than get to the root of the actual problem and it sickens me. What if we would have blamed the tv or books of the previous generation(which has happened in times past but to a much smaller scale) but now there would be outrage. Just think about for a minute
