One massive massive piece of advice: if you're listening is be self-aware because being the number two at draftkings, whoever came after you guys and got that equity and worked with. You has done a lot better than all the people decided to do a number one and get anxiety if you don't have the stomach to be a number one. It is very much not a happy life to be an entrepreneur so unwind that and that ideology, because it's not any cooler than being a teacher or a nurse or a number four executive. Be you figure that out that's my two cents?.
I had the opportunity to be promoted just recently in fact. I had the experience in the department, did the internship last year and twice the opportunity came up. However, after the internship I had no desire to be salaried and after last and this year I know I make more than the promotion. My ideas and work are still respected. I train and hepp others where I can. Less stress more money and same respect!!!
I 100% get what he means. I think people over romanticize being an entrepreneur or business owner like it’s the perfect or best job in the world. I used to think it was, till I realised the amount of work and responsibility it is. It’s defo not for everyone. I enjoy working until 4pm, then shutting off and going home. Many entrepreneurs work all day round. It’s your business, it don’t shut down and it’s a lot of pressure/sacrifice/responsibility. Which I now know I just don’t want. I have a 9-5 (well, a 8-4) and a small side hustle and I’ve never been happier. I literally felt like I was overran and on my knees constantly when I had my own business 🤷🏽♀️
However I feel that a bad day of being an entrepreneur is no different than a regular day at my job-job, and a decent day as an entrepreneur is so far beyond a good day at the job-job.
Through self awareness, in watching, I’ve learned and I’m happy differentiating as an artist in speaking and writing. I have always noticed the creative side to your brand that goes far beyond business.
Gary is super annoying because he’s never openly discussed his shift in mindset. One day it was “work till you die!!!” Then it’s “find your passion maaan, be yourself.” The collective consciousness is evolving
for real, I am the manager of my local coffee shop. The title is cool but because I was self aware being a #2, the right hand man releases the anxiety of watching over people.

Dude, I'd love to get involved enough with anything to be a number 2. I'd be happy to be a number 30, if I could make decisions that mattered and still get a portion of the equity. I really wish more companies would be a greater percentage of employee owned. Let me slip into that vayner mentorship program 😉
